If you know the purpose of a fish tank stand, you will not be placing fish tank on top of an unused furniture piece such as shoe rack. People are usually spending more time choosing and decorating their fish tank while neglecting the importance of fish tank stand. Even if there is a stand, it is often of a wrong choice because it don’t suit the requirement of the fish tank. There are times whereby the stand is not even suitable to support the weight of the fish tank. Now, let me share with you the most basic criteria of a right fish tank stand.

1)    Ability to withstand weight of fish tank

As a general rule of thumb, a stand is usually required if the tank is more than 20 gallons. If your tank is made of acrylic, you need to find a stand that support along the full length of the tank. If the tank is made of glass, a stand that could support the 4 corners/edges is sufficient.

2)    Open or closed stand

There are 2 types of stand – open and closed stand. The open stand is ideal for glass tank and is usually capable of holding up to 40 gallons. It is rectangular in shape and has 4 supporting stand. The closed stand is usually used to hold bigger size tank which is 50 gallons and above. The length of the stand is usually longer than the length of the fish tank for stability purpose. Closed stand often comes with inbuilt cabinets to keep fish accessories like filter, food etc.

3)    Blends into your house setting

If you spend time finding a nice piece of fish tank stand, it could be a furniture that blends into your house setting and contributes to the design of the living room. In order to magnify the setup of the fish tank, a stand is essential to bring out the entire look of it. Imagine having a beautiful fish tank but a old and ugly fish tank stand. It looks awkward isn’t it?

With this information, you will make a better choice when selecting a fish tank stand. In my opinion, I usually prefer closed tank stand because it looks more classy compared to a open tank stand. Furthermore, the inbuilt cabinets from closed tank stand comes in handy when you want to hide the fish accessories from your guest. However, a closed stand is usually pre-made for larger size tank so you might need to find a carpenter to custom built it for you. But remember to get a stand that is able to withstand the weight of the tank and get one that is able to blend into your surroundings. Go get your fish tank stand today and have fun admiring your fishes.
